Bread. It’s essential. It’s indispensable. From baguettes to tortillas, from pizza crust to naan; it’s a staple loved by so many for its diversity and deliciousness. As if bread wasn’t delightful enough on its own and in all its forms, some inventive genius from years ago turned it into a dessert! And I will be grateful to that person forever.
Bread Pudding
A delightful classic! Serve warm, topped with ice cream or whipped cream.
Ingredients
- 4 cups French bread cubes
- 3 eggs
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 ½ cups water
- 2 Tbsp butter, melted

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°
- Place bread cubes in a buttered 9-inch square baking dish. In a medium mixing bowl, beat eggs and vanilla. Add sweetened condensed milk, water and butter; mix well. Pour evenly over bread, moistening completely.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake 40 to 45 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Serve warm with whipped cream. Refrigerate leftovers.
